Mesoscopic modelling of financial markets

چکیده
We derive a mesoscopic description of the behavior of a simple financial market where the agents can create their own portfolio between two investments alternatives: a stock and a bond. The model is derived starting from the Levy-Levy-Solomon microscopic model [13, 14] using the methods of kinetic theory and consists of a linear Boltzmann equation for the wealth distribution of the agents coupled with an equation for the price of the stock. From this model under a suitable scaling we derive a Fokker-Planck equation and show that the equation admits a self-similar lognormal behavior. Several numerical examples are also reported to validate our analysis.

Mesoscopic Community Structure of Financial Markets Revealed by Price and Sign Fluctuations
The mesoscopic organization of complex systems, from financial markets to the brain, is an intermediate between the microscopic dynamics of individual units (stocks or neurons, in the mentioned cases), and the macroscopic dynamics of the system as a whole. The organization is determined by "communities" of units whose dynamics, represented by time series of activity, is more strongly correlated...
متن کاملPhase Transitions and Fluctuations in Mesoscopic Systems
In this talk some interesting and up-to-date problems will be mentioned, which are opened recently to more extended and detailed fundamental studies. These are static and dynamical problems of meso-scale physics, and other fields like neural networks or financial markets, where dynamic, nonlinear fluctuations are dominant, new phenomena like stochastic resonances or phase synchronization occur....
متن کاملModelling Markets versus Market Economies: Success and Failure
Non-linear, stochastic, thermodynamic, agent based or network modelling are powerful tools brought from other fields into economics. Applied in almost every sub-field of economics, these tools had however substantial success only in the analysis of financial markets. We suggest that the reason for this is less the insufficiency of these technical tools but rather the incapacity of mainstream ec...
متن کاملModelling financial markets by the multiplicative sequence of trades
We introduce the stochastic multiplicative point process modelling trading activity of financial markets. Such a model system exhibits power-law spectral density S(f) ∝ 1/f β , scaled as power of frequency for various values of β between 0.5 and 2. Furthermore, we analyze the relation between the power-law autocorrelations and the origin of the power-law probability distribution of the trading ...
متن کاملFiscal policy and interest rates : the role of financial and economic integration
It is commonly believed that a fiscal expansion raises interest rates. However, these crowding out effects of deficits have been found to be small or non-existent. One explanation is that financial integration offsets interest rate differentials on globalised bond markets. This paper measures the degree of integration of government bond markets, using spatial modelling techniques to take this s...
